The physicians of Lakeland Vascular Institute are among the most highly trained and educated within the medical profession. In addition to four years of pre-medicine undergraduate education and an additional four years of medical school education, our team of doctors undergo a one-year internship and a four-year radiology residency where they learn how to operate diagnostic imaging equipment as well as read images and interpret the findings. They then undergo an additional 1-2 years of fellowship (subspecialty) training, where they learn how to perform minimally invasive procedures using catheters within the vascular system, guided by imaging. That’s a grand total of 14-15 years of education and training to become an interventional radiologist.
Out team must then pass a licensing examination to practice medicine and become board-certified in vascular and interventional radiology by the American Board of Radiology. Continuing education is mandatory to stay updated on the latest advancements and techniques, as are additional certification exams.
